Miss USA 2010, the 59th edition of the Miss USA pageant, was held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 16, 2010. Miss USA 2009, Kristen Dalton of North Carolina, crowned her successor, Rima Fakih of Michigan as Miss USA 2010 at the end of this event. Fakih represented the United States at the Miss Universe 2010 pageant in Las Vegas on August 23, 2010 where she did not advance to the semifinals; becoming the fourth Miss USA to do so in Miss Universe history (the last time was Shauntay Hinton in 2002). Representatives of the 50 states and the District of Columbia competed for the title in the pageant, which was broadcast live on NBC. Fakihs victory, however, was controversial with charges of bias facing the Miss USA Pageant after Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, who was runnerup, defended Arizonas antiillegal immigration bill.

Pure Ketchup: A History of America's National Condiment With Recipes
Publisher: University of South Carolina Press 1996 | 240 Pages | ISBN: 1570031398 | PDF | 12 MB
A zestful blend of culinary history, savory anecdotes, and surprising recipes.
The marriage of food and pop culture has one of its better moments in Pure Ketchup by Andrew F. Smith. This history proves that a book larded with hundreds of footnotes can captivate. Smith's writing is lucid and clips along briskly from one astonishing fact to the next. Did you know that ketchup was so much the rage by the early 19th century that Lord Byron, Jane Austin and Charles Dickens all mention it in their work? Or that in 1915 over 800 brands of ketchup were sold in the state of Connecticut alone? Smith elucidates the cloudy origins of both the word ("ketchup" "catchup" "catsup") and the condiment.

The Girl on the Magazine Cover: The Origins of Visual Stereotypes in American Mass Media
Publisher: The University of North Carolina Press | English | October 31, 2000 | ISBN: 0807826537 | PDF | 272 pages | 9.3Mb
It seems that each time the American woman begins to veer toward feminism, mainstream magazines put her back in her proper place, portraying her as wife, mother, and consumer. Kitch (journalism, Temple Univ.) traces the early development of this trend, beginning in the 1890s with Alice Barber Stephens s American Woman series and ending 30 years later with the ideal families depicted by Norman Rockwell and Jessie Willcox Smith. In between, she considers such influential icons as the flapper, the vamp, the nurse, the girl graduate, and Charles Dana Gibson s eponymous representation of womanhood, who is tellingly called a girl, not a woman.

The UAE's tolerant, cosmopolitan atmosphere - which is most notable in the emirate of Dubai - gives resident non-Emiris opportunities to enjoy their own cultural and religious organizations. This progressive country has survived threats to its regional stability and prospered because of its use of its oil wealth to the benefit of all Emiris and its close relationship with the United States.

When Cleopatra came to power, Tutankhamen had been in his tomb more than 1,000 years.
